Crawford Vs. Madrimov Ticket Sales Lagging Despite Stellar Undercard

Ticket sales for next month's Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov is reportedly in a bad mood for their fight on August 3rd at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

The seating capacity of this stadium is 22,000, and many tickets need to be sold for such a big event.

The undercard is one of the best this year, with two potential head-to-head fights, but it looks like the fans aren't enjoying Crawford's game.

Lackluster Enthusiasm for Crawford's Bout

If this doesn't change by the end of July, organizers may need to lower ticket prices or do something drastic like removing the Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz vs. Jose 'Rayo' Valenzuela won the title. That's arguably the best fight on the card, in my opinion.

Holding an event in Southern California is not a good place for Crawford vs. Madrimov as a news manager. Having three-division world champion Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), a native of Omaha, Nebraska, fight WBA junior middleweight champion Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) in Los Angeles was a bad idea.

Although some serious boxing fans are talking about Crawford-Madrimov, there is not much talk about this fight on social media. Fans seem to be very interested in WBA light welterweight champion 'Pitbull' Cruz's title defense against rising star 'Rayo' Valenzuela. That is a very good fight.

A fight that would be popular with fans in the Los Angeles area is Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs) vs. Jose 'Rayo' Valenzuela (13-2, 9 KOs). Fans will want to see it.

Crawford's Post-Spence Slump

Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) seems to be back to his pre-Errol Spence Jr days, and it's not looking good. Crawford has never attracted PPV before his fight with former IBF/WBA/WBC welterweight champion Spence last year on July 29, 2023, at the Showtime pay-per-view. The only conclusion I can draw from the reports of low ticket sales for Crawford-Madrimov is that Crawford doesn't have the popularity in the Southern California area to headline against Madrimov, who is largely unknown to the general public.

Possible Solutions

Simply put, the best solution to increase ticket sales would be one of these two options:

  • To reduce ticket prices: That's an easy step to drive ticket sales, but it may not be the solution.
  • To change the main event: Moving Cruz vs. Valenzuela as a headliner will increase interest from Southern California fans.
  • Focus on promoting the Pitbull-Valenzuela fight: Changing the marketing tactics of the event to a more important fight between Cruz and Valenzuela may work to attract fans.

If Crawford was facing 'The Mexican Beast' David Benavidez, fans in Southern California would probably be eager to buy tickets. That fight will attract a lot of Los Angeles fans because it will put Crawford in a position to face one of the top fighters in the 168-lb division.

The winner would then face superstar Canelo Alvarez in a vacant super middleweight championship.
