Charlie Woods shot an 81 in the home round of the US Open

Charlie Woods failed in his first bid to join his famous father in the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst.

The 15-year-old shot a round of nine-under 81 on Thursday at his home US Open at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., which is one of 13 qualifying locations in the state.

Charlie's round included three double bogeys, four bogeys and one birdie. 81 points left Charlie T61 out of 74 players. (An additional three players WDed, and five others DNF.) The top five players, with scores ranging from medalist to three-under to even, qualified for the US Open finals, which begin on Monday, May 20.

This is the second time Charlie is trying to compete in an individual event where he might be able to compete with his father. In February, Charlie attempted to qualify for the PGA Tour's Cognizant Classic, but posted a round of 16-over-par 86, failing to advance to the 18-hole preliminary round at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla. it was reportedly marred by the unruly behavior of spectators in the area.

Fans have loved Charlie's game since he first played golf on television alongside his father at the 2020 PNC Championship at age 11. He has now met his father four times in this event. Earlier this year, Charlie's high school team won its state championship.

If Charlie hopes to follow in his father's footsteps, he still has some time. Tiger was 16 years old when he played his first PGA Tour tournament at Riviera in 1992.
