Jay Onrait: What about defense? As a former defenseman, he has a lot of young defensemen, you know, David Savard, however, they have a lot of young defensemen on this team. Is this defense, in your opinion, capable of allowing this Montreal Canadiens team to be competitive this year or are we still a year or two away from Marty and is this still in rebuilding mode?

NHL Rumors: When Will Sidney Crosby's Pittsburgh Extension Be Done?

Frankie Corrado: “It's still in rebuilding mode because I can say that the roster hasn't been rebuilt yet. There is still some money on the books, and some contracts that have taken a long time and were probably too long to begin with. So as far as the front end that's still in rebuilding mode but that doesn't mean the back end can't move forward and you know I give these guys a lot of credit because two years ago they had five players on the roster. on any given night, those kids do an incredible job.

And last year, many of them took steps in the right direction. And then towards the end of the season. We got Logan Mailloux, a first round pick. We got to see Lane Hutson. So you know this, the highly promising young defensive end Jay added two more pieces late in the year to that promising team. So it was full of young players. It looks like it will be very crowded.

But those are good problems to have when you're a team trying to get back to where you want to be. But I can say that they are there, they just say that they are where they should be now. Now is not the time for Montreal to do something big. Now is the time for them to develop internally and stay competitive day and night. But that doesn't mean the playoffs will happen now.”

NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers, Seattle Kraken, and Columbus Blue Jackets

Onrait: “Enough. We will see if we can use the parties to make Kaiden Guhle a long-term contract for the Montreal Canadiens.”
