Antoine Griezmann could join LAFC
Los Angeles FC is not the first team you would think of as a potential World Cup winner, respectfully.
However, it is a sign of their growing importance in MLS that they have signed two players who have lifted the trophy over the years.
Both Olivier Giroud and Hugo Lloris now find themselves in the squad, and until recently, the brilliant Italian defender, Giorgio Chiellini could also count himself among the players.
World Cup winner Griezmann could sign for LAFC
To achieve that then, it is probably not too surprising that the club is now setting their sights on Atletico Madrid talisman, Antoine Griezmann.
According to L'Equipe (subscription required), the MLS outfit have been making progress with the Frenchman over a transfer over the past few weeks.
Furthermore, with a year left on his contract, the 33-year-old is available for a minimum of €10 million.
If you consider that he cost Barcelona €120m in the last five years (transfermarkt), LAFC will get a huge profit.
Griezmann may not be the same player he once was, but he should have no problems adjusting to MLS.
He will join fellow La Liga stars Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba in moving to the US to see out their careers.
If he ends up changing it will mean that Diego Simeone will have lost Griezmann, Memphis Depay and Alvaro Morata in the same window.
Therefore, it is clear that the Rojiblancos need to be in the market for a new striker, and will be looking for him regardless of whether Griezmann stays or leaves.
