2020 Cuban Olympic gold medalist Cruz (3-0, 1 KO) looks to gain more experience by defeating Moran (30-6-1, 20 K1s) on this card, which will be shown on DAZN and -ESPN+ PPV.
Cruz's Quest for Experience
Although Cruz has only won three fights, three sanctioning bodies have him ranked in the top 10. Many fans feel he is one of the top three fighters in the 135-lb division, just behind Gervonta Davis and Vasily Lomachenko.
Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn promotes Cruz, who wants to challenge for a world title in 2025. Hearn will need to find top contenders willing to fight Cruz because he already has trouble finding fighters willing to fight him.
Cruz's former victim, Keyshawn Davis, dismissed the possibility of a fight with him. Keyshawn's reluctance to fight Cruz doesn't bother the talented Cuban because he sees it as a father-son match, given his four-round victory over Davis.
“I expect a tough challenge. The guy is very knowledgeable. He obviously has more experience than me on the sports side,” said Andy Cruz on Title Sports Network, talking about his fight with Antonio Moran this Saturday night August 3rd on and DAZN ESPN+ PPV.
Cruz's knockout victory over Moran will help him gain more attention from the fans. Cruz trains in the same gym as Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, and it could help him emulate his style in the professional ranks.
History of Cruz and Keyshawn Davis
“Examinations like this work well in the future. There is a bit of history there. We met four times at the ateurs. I was able to get out of each of the four innings, but they were all close,” Andy Cruz said of Keyshawn Davis.
It is unlikely that Keyshawn will agree to fight Cruz because the matchup for the Virginia native, who is trying to get money fights, is bad. Cruz may mess up Keyshawn's plans. If Keyshawn wants to make a name for himself, he could fight Cruz and show that he can avenge his loss.
“There is a lot of history. We know each other, that's why there are always talks between us. I think he wants it a little more than I do,” Cruz said of Keyshawn. He's a little drunk on it, while I'm still comfortable with it. If it was, I think it would be a father and son reunion. “
It's understandable why Keyshawn is still upset about his four losses to Cruz. He dominated Keyshawn in each of their fights, showing that he was not on his level.
Looking Ahead to Future Challenges
“For me, it can be the legends of this category. Lomachenko, Tank and Shakur. Those guys will be dream opponents,” said Cruz about the fights he would like to fight in the lightweight division. There are so many heroes that stand out in that category. It would be hard to pick one.”
Of the three names that Cruz would like to fight, Shakur is the most likely because he is eager for a big fight and seems willing to take on anyone.
