Could Patrik Laine fit in Montreal?
Marc Dumont of Montreal Hockey Now: It's clear the Montreal Canadiens could use another offense. They tried to add others at the start of free agency with Jonathan Marchessault but he signed with the Nashville Predators.
26-year-old Patrik Laine could be a good fit for the Canadiens on a five-year timeline. He has two years left at $8.7 million and comes with some question marks. With his goals in 82 games, he is close to 30 goals in the last three seasons. He would fill their need for a top six player.
His contract, declining numbers, and asking price are the sticking points. The asking price shouldn't be too bad considering the Blue Jackets and Laine are willing to move on. He only has two years left on his contract which is not bad and will give them enough time to decide if he is worth a contract extension. Yes, his current cap of $8.7 billion is a bit high.

Josh Wegman of The Score: There is no guarantee that the Columbus Blue Jackets will trade Patrik Laine. He would like to change the position and GM Don Waddell said they are working on it. A look at five logical, potential trade spots for Patrik Laine.
Pittsburgh Penguins – Imagine Laine on a line with Sidney Crosby and being drafted on Erik Karlsson's power play. The Penguins will need to restore salary – Lars Eller at $2.45 million and Noel Acciari at $2 million will be selected.
Colorado Avalanche – Valeri Nichushkin ($6.125 million) and Gabriel Landeskog ($7 million) situations complicate matters. They could have $16 million in cap space or $3 million. The Avs have a big hole if Nichushkin and Landeskog don't play.
Vegas Golden Knights – The Golden Knights don't hold back on big moves. It will need money to operate and may need to include Nicolas Roy ($3 million) and/or Brett Howden ($1.9 million). They can use a top six player.
Seattle Kraken – Could use a game-breaking winger. You will have to find a way to make the money work.
Buffalo Sabers – Not ideal but has cap space to work with. They have a bunch of young players who may want/deserve a shot in the top six.
