Sepp Straka and Duane Bock wasted no time. In their first event together, the 2023 John Deere Classic, Straka shot a final-round 62 to earn his second PGA Tour victory.
He lent his Bock, who in turn lent him to Kevin Kisner, who was taking some time off the game.
“I think he's doing a great job of sticking with one shot at a time,” Straka said of Bock that week at Deere. “He's a great guy and he still likes to have fun out there, but even if I'm two years old or playing well, he hasn't changed. She is cute in a way that she doesn't show any kind of emotion one way or the other. You are open [to the] next shot, no matter what.”
The success continued two weeks later, when they tied for second in the Open Championship. This year was also good. In 20 starts, Straka has made 14 saves and finished 25 times 10 times. He is 18th in the FedEx Cup standings and is in good shape heading into the Tour Championship.
Straka was a guest on Supar's GOLF podcast this week and explained how Bock got into his bag, and it turns out it was Kisner's idea to do it full time.
“Kiz texted him and said, 'Hey, if you haven't thought about this, you should go ahead and jump on Sepp's bag,'” Straka said. “I am very happy about that because it has worked well since then.”
Bock was with Straka when Europe beat the US in the 2023 Ryder Cup, although Bock had to switch allegiances.
“Before I was selected he had the USA book cover,” Straka said, “and the other caddies were giving him a hard time.”
