Some Minor Changes to the Rules
Dan Rosen of NHL.com (mailbag): Several minor rule changes have been approved by the NHL for the 2024-25 season. Now, sadly for some, no more time will be extended just yet. After all, about 70% of overtime games end in overtime. That is progress.
A great rule would be to challenge the puck over the penalty glass. Coaches will have the opportunity to catch such violations. However, there is a danger. An unsuccessful challenge results in a penalty of two minutes on top of the first minimum. Talk about evil.
Other rule changes include not giving defenders a break when the goalkeeper accidentally hits the pins, centers warning only once for face-offs, and no sitting on the dashboard waiting for a change in flight. The first case is a warning. The second is a small fine.

Shane Wright And The New Season
Darren Brown of NHL.com: It was a very different experience that drove Shane Wright to where he is today. The striker is ready to take the progress he had in the Coachella Valley and have one now in Seattle. It also doesn't hurt to have Dan Bylsma along for the ride (he was promoted to Seattle Head Coach on May 28).
“I think this year was a good opportunity for him to prove himself as a player,” said Byslma. “Just put your head down, play 72 games, play the playoffs, and work on your game and improve as a person and as a player. I think that's pretty obvious. It was great to see his progress throughout the year.”
Consider the year before that which saw Wright bounce all over the place from two teams in the OHL, to the WJC, NHL, AHL, etc. Last season was easy and this season, Wright is ready to make waves in Seattle. Not all development methods are linear.
Dustin Wolf Gets His Chance
Derek Van Diest of NHL.com: It's finally Dustin Wolf's turn. That's big news coming out of Calgary. Wolf will be competing against Dan Vladar and Devin Cooley.
Keep in mind that Vladar is about to undergo major hip surgery. Although he is expected to be ready for the season, there are no guarantees. Wolf got plenty of time after the Jacob Markstrom trade to get the necessary experience.
Wolff gets a very small defense in front of him and a chance to improve and hold the starting job.
