Arsenal get a boost as Euro 2024 stars return to training
A number of Arsenal stars returned to Mikel Arteta's squad for their final pre-season game against Bayer Leverkusen after impressing on the international stage at Euro 2024.
Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, William Saliba and Aaron Ramsdale have all returned to training after competing in Germany and have joined the rest of their squad when they arrive in the United Kingdom.
The rest of the Gunners spent their summer on a pre-season tour of the United States, facing Bournemouth, Manchester United and Liverpool. Their last clash, against the Reds, resulted in a 2-1 defeat as Mohamed Salah and Fabio Carvalho put Arne Slot's side ahead, before Kai Havertz pulled one back.
Now, i the club has confirmed the return of Europe's stars – who enjoyed their first training session with the whole team ahead of their final pre-season game. England stars Saka, Rice and Ramsdale arrived home after reaching their second consecutive Euro final, only to miss out on lifting the silverware after being beaten 2-1 by Spain.
Saliba reached the semi-finals of the tournament against France, before losing 2-1 to Spain.
Spain stopper David Raya is back, after his European crown, but has yet to feature for the Gunners in pre-season. 22-year-old Karl Hein has been given the chance to play between the sticks, after boasting just one Arsenal appearance so far in his career.
Arsenal host Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday in their final pre-season friendly. They will then begin their Premier League season against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 17.
