The EA Sports FC 25 Ultimate Team deep dive went live on August 5 including new details about the improved player roles system.
“Player Roles are a new component of the Player Element and replace Career Levels. Player Roles will guide the way players think and behave on the pitch, leading to truer tactical intelligence and ball movement,” said EA Sports. Removing Activity Ratings is very necessary as the game mechanics have aged and prohibited players from using certain items at higher gameplay settings.
EA Sports has detailed the player roles that will be introduced in FC 25. Here is the full list.

EA Sports highlighted that new roles will be introduced throughout the year, although it did not specify or tease any additions.
“Each player will have a Role Familiarity that allows them to perform their duties at a higher level than others. With every combination of Player Roles and Role Familiarity, our goal is to have more variety and skill when it comes to player selection. Stuff for your Ultimate Soccer Team,” said EA Sports.
There are four types of Role Customization: Base, Role+, Role++ and Out of Position, per EA Sports:
The foundation
If a player is assigned a position that is one of their preferred positions, they will have access to all roles of those positions at least at the basic level.
Role+
Every player will have at least one Role+, indicating that they are accomplished in that role.
Role++
Reserved for the best players, few players with role ++ are world class in that role.
He is out of office
A yellow exclamation mark indicates a simplified version of the Role when the player is not in the area.
So, as the example above shows, Vinicius Junior has the role++ of Inside Forward. Not shown is an example of Out of Position that shows what would have happened if Vini Jr. living in CDM.
