Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has announced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for the 2024 US presidential election against Republican nominee Donald Trump.
“I'm sending all my love and support to our VP, Kamala Harris. I wish you the best of luck in your race,” Green said Sunday during his YouTube podcast “The Draymond Green Show”.
“It's a race of a lifetime. You earned it, now go be nice. Be great in the campaign, be great in the conversations, be great in your historic race.”
Draymond Green, 34, praised Harris for his success and criticized those who questioned his race and nationality. The four-time NBA champion has brushed aside criticism that Harris is not African-American because of his mixed heritage.
Harris, who was born in Oakland, California, to immigrant parents, faced scrutiny for her ethnicity despite being the first Asian American, Black, and female vice president in American history.

“The way you get a black girl to see, 'Wow, I can run for president,' that's amazing.” I've got three daughters, so they have the mindset of, 'Wow, I can run for president one day,' that's what he's doing. That's amazing,” Green added.
“To give that hope to young Black and Brown girls around the world that you might run for president one day, man, that's different. That is different. And they try you're not Black. I don't think every little Black girl watching him thinks that. I think they saw him like, 'Wow, wow, that's me.' And how amazing is that?”
The NBA veteran grew up in Saginaw, Michigan, and played college basketball for the Michigan State Spartans, helping them to two Final Four appearances and a Big Ten championship in 2012.
“Growing up in America as a young black man is not easy. It's not easy growing up in America as a black guy,” said Draymond Green. “And I remember sitting with my father in the office. I grew up with epilepsy, and I used to get tested every month. Every few months, I had to go to my neurologist.
“I was looking at a magazine and I asked my dad, 'Do you ever think we're going to have a woman president?' and he said: 'Not in my life.' I cried in that office because it was the first time I had to process, like, 'Mah, my father is going to die at some point.'
