Joel Embiid Responds to Huge Anger From French Crowd

Joel Embiid chose to represent America over France at this year's Olympics and it seems that French fans want to make him regret this decision.

Embiid has been heavily criticized in every Olympic game he has played so far, but he seems to be taking it in stride.

During Team USA's 122-87 victory in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, the big man even responded by treating the crowd to his favorite celebration/taunt: the WWE-inspired “crotch chop.”

Embiid has been fined twice by the NBA – $60,000 – for making this move, but he has learned that he can do it in the Olympics without consequences.

“Well, they can still find a way [to fine me], but that felt good,” Embiid said with a smile. “It's good to have fun with it, because at the end of the day, you have to get something out of this experience.”

Embiid was very upset in the group stage, but against Brazil he put up 14 points and 7 rebounds on 5-of-6 shooting in 12 minutes of action.

Embiid's disdain for French fans comes from the fact that the 76ers star has a chance to play for France after the country granted him citizenship in 2022, even though he has never lived there.

He was born in Cameroon and when he was 16 years old, he moved to the United States, where he became a citizen.

Embiid also had the opportunity to play for Cameroon but the team was quickly eliminated from the qualifying games.
