Golf Business News – 7-year-old makes hole-in-one in first round

As reported by England Golf, Sunday 4th August 2024 was an amazing day for seven-year-old Walter Hall, who was heading out to Ross-on-Wye Golf Club to play nine holes for the first time.

After shooting 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 11 in his first six holes from the navy tee, he stood on the 111-yard 7th tee and hit a perfect shot.

Father Tim, begging his son who was playing with two other members, couldn't believe it. He said: “I am very proud of Walt's achievement and seeing the gun was an amazing feeling. The craziest part is that he still has it before me!

“After we got in, I asked him how he was feeling and he said, 'It feels amazing, but can we play another nine holes after we finish?' As we returned to the social hall, all the members and everyone around were happy. It was amazing and the atmosphere was electric!”

Walter, a keen golfer, has been progressing through a seven-stage training program in Ross-on-Wye under the tutelage of his father (Tim Hall School of Golf), and his world-leading idol Scottie Scheffler. a gold medal at the Olympics on the very day he achieved his remarkable feat.

And after shooting a 54 on his first attempt at nine holes, Walter said: “I loved playing my first round of golf and getting a hole-in-one! One day I want to be exactly like Scottie Scheffler, he is amazing!”

Golf England Development Manager Laura Yapp said: “What an amazing achievement and it must have been a moment for Walter and his father, and all his friends. I hope he continues to enjoy the game for many years and that his success inspires other young people to want to pick up a club and play golf!”

While the usual celebratory tradition might be to buy a bottle of scotch in the clubhouse, it was clearly a slightly different celebration for young Walter, who enjoyed a fun pizza party with his friends in the evening.

Walter's achievement may be a proud moment for his family and his team, but it serves as a reminder that golf is a sport that can be enjoyed by all ages, and that any achievement can be achieved!
