Morgan Pressel apologized Saturday, one day after the Golf Channel commentator swore during the Olympic women's golf broadcast.

As Lydia Ko and Morgane Metraux warmed up at Le Golf National before their final round, Prespel and announcer Steve Sands had this exchange:

Sands said: “It's a no-man's land when you're between the bottom two, but that's exactly where you want to be, Morgan.

Pressl said: “Yeah, what's going on in the minds of these players right now, but Steve, I want to take a moment to thank you for something I said yesterday during the broadcast. I stumbled over my words and unfortunately it sounded like I said something inappropriate and I'm very sorry that it came out like this because I wouldn't have said that on air on the radio.

“But that being said, we have one of the biggest days of golf ahead of us. Just look at these players, getting ready to warm up. Walk to the first tee, probably nervous. Even now, I listen to those who are happy, especially that Nelly [Korda] and Celine [Boutier] team, hoping to win a medal for their country. I mean, that's great, Steve. I don't know about you, but I'm on fire this round.”

Significantly, the words “fired up” were part of what led to the apology.

On Friday, during third-round play, as he watched Brooke Henderson hit her second shot on the 478-yard, par-5 14th hole, Prespel said:

“Yes, he must start a movement. And here, aggressive play, to this green. We've never seen anyone ride this green twice. Yeah, let's get Brittany [Henderson, Brooke’s sister and caddie] a small pump. He's on fire. He likes to see you.”

Swearing off golf, of course, is nothing new; A hot microphone often picks up unpleasant words from professionals. But hearing from broadcasters is rare, and clips of Pressel's comments are circulating online.

Below is one of them, and the wrong time-to-work happens at 18 marks.
