Chelsea could sign another £100m Omorodion and Osimhen

Things look set to pick up at Chelsea in the last 24 hours, with the departures of Samu Omorodion (in) and Conor Gallagher (out) at risk, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea spent much of the summer scouting the market as they looked for a new striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson, and it looked like Omorodion would finally be joining the club. a seven-year contract.

With a deal for Omorodion now looking unlikely, Chelsea will have to turn their attention elsewhere. Victor Osimhen has been the main name suggested apart from the 20-year-old Spaniard, but there could still be some surprising names emerging.

Chelsea's potential alternative to Omorodion

According to reports from Football.London, Chelsea could be offered the chance to move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak amid the collapse of the Omorodion deal.

Indeed, with Noni Madueke being of interest to the Toons, it is suggested that in order to complete the deal, the Blues could also try to agree a deal for the Swedish international.

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak-1

While the claim is nothing short of speculative, the Londoners have looked at Isak in the past, with reports from earlier this summer suggesting there was interest.

Other names that Chelsea have considered include Aston Villa's John Duran, and Lille's Jonathan David, after their failed bid for Isak at the start of the summer window, when they inquired about the striker.

Isak made 40 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions last season, scoring 25 goals, providing two assists, while playing 2,973 minutes.

How Isak compares to Thierry Henry

Many have compared the 24-year-old to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who had a similar tall and slim build, powerful stride, and deadly finish. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe even agreed, saying “I see comparisons”, speaking in pairs.

Like Isak, Henry played both as a striker and on the left, playing mostly on the left at Monaco before joining Arsenal, where Arsène Wenger prioritized his development as a striker. Henry made 377 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 228 goals and providing 98 assists.

Isak has now played 67 games for Newcastle, registering 35 goals and providing five assists in those games. Both strikers have the ability to score goals, they are known as healthy finishers in front of the goals, and even share a joint shot with the same foot, into the bottom corner when 1v1 with the goalkeeper.

Isak, by comparison, scored ten goals and provided two assists in his first half of the season in the Premier League, joining in January and making 22 appearances. Then, as mentioned earlier, he managed a 23 G/A final Premier League campaign, scoring 21 and assisting two.

The numbers that Isak posted already on the unchallenged side near the top of the table are very close to the levels that Henry showed earlier. The 24-year-old is averaging 0.60 non-penalty goals per 90, ranking in the top 14% among other strikers in the top five leagues.

The £100m talent also scores with a 0.22 goals/shot rate, ranking in the top 10% of strikers in the top five leagues in this metric, which just goes to show his clinical finishing and composure.

If Chelsea somehow manage to land Isak from Newcastle, they will finally have their 20+ goal per striker of the season, and he has already proven what he can do in the Premier League.
