Man United are not considering a move for Ivan Toney until deadline day

Manchester United are currently not considering a move for Ivan Toney until deadline day according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

United kicked off the season with a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford last Friday and have been busy in the market, with plenty of work seemingly lined up before deadline day.

The Red Devils have signed Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt, and were in talks with Paris Saint Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

United make a late move for Toney

In addition to signing Zirkzee United have been linked with Toney who was left out of the squad when Brentford beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Sunday.

However, Plettenberg gave an update on United's interest and reported that the Old Trafford outfit are not considering moving the 28-year-old until deadline day.

He logged onto X.com and said:

“I also told him that Manchester United is not currently considering signing Ivan # Tone until the deadline! There is no planned route yet. Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee should play regularly.

#MUFC The 28-year-old striker from Brentford, who will be watched over the next 13 days with many applications and strong interest from Saudi.”

Toney currently has a year left on his contract and is expected to leave this summer but so far nothing has happened, and there is strong interest from Saudi side Al-Ahli who reportedly had a £35m offer rejected last week.

It's quite surprising that potential suitors haven't made a strong push to sign Toney this late in the window, although they may be biding their time knowing that if they wait too long a discount deal could be on the table. .

United currently have Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund as their strikers, and Marcus Rashford can also play down the middle so it is unclear how much they will need Toney, but if they make a move he would be a good option and give them something different. .
