Man Utd midfielder joins Burnley in £9m deal

Manchester United announced that sale graduate Hannibal Mejbri went to Burnley.

The midfielder joined the Red Devils as a youngster from AS Monaco in 2019 and managed to break into the first team, making 13 senior appearances.

But Hannibal's time at United is over, with a permanent move to Burnley confirmed on Wednesday. The final fee could reach £9m if all add-ons are met, while there is a significant sell-on clause in the deal.

The Clarets are busy rebuilding after last season's relegation from the Premier League and are among the favorites for promotion to the Championship under new manager Scott Parker.

Hannibal told Burnley club channels: “I'm very happy. I'm very happy to be here and I can't wait to see the fans. I've played with Burnley before at Turf Moor and the atmosphere was amazing.

“After talking to the coach, the project sounded good to me and I hope we can succeed.”

Hannibal joined Erik ten Hag's United plans towards the end of the 2023/24 season amid a first-team injury crisis. He made 10 appearances during that time before joining La Liga side Sevilla on loan in the second half of the campaign, but made just six appearances during his short spell in southern Spain.

United are expected to confirm the departure of another midfielder and academy graduate, Scott McTominay, in the coming days, with a move to Napoli nearing completion. In terms of signings, United are wrapping up the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.
