Three of Atlanta's best courses to play when you're in town for the TOUR Championship

The TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta is the culmination of the 2024 PGA Tour schedule.

As the pros battle it out for the $25 million FedExCup jackpot, golfers of all skill levels will enjoy watching the game at the legendary Georgia course.

But what if you're in Atlanta and like to socialize yourself?

Here we look at three of the best public courses in Atlanta.

Echelon Golf Club

The Rees Jones-designed course in Alpharetta, located 40 minutes from downtown, has been going up for years with its excellent layout. Although it is private, social play is allowed and ensures to provide a fun experience for daily fee players.

Echelon is one of the best golf courses in the Atlanta region, with dramatic elevation changes and stunning views of the surrounding 600 acres.

It's an essential must-play on any Atlanta golf bucket list.

Echelon Golf Club's reputation continues to rise, not only in the Alpharetta and Atlanta areas, but nationally. Golf Magazine now rates Echelon the 11th best course out of more than 400 golf courses in Georgia.

Chateau Elan Golf Club

Chateau Elan, located 45 minutes from downtown Braselton, is a stunning vineyard property perfect for a weekend getaway or a tricky round of golf in a spacious and impressive setting.

With two 18-hole courses and 45 holes in total, it's easy to immerse yourself in the course and play it all in one weekend or short vacation. Chateau Elan is a favorite among Atlanta's best public golf courses in large part because the staff is exceptional and dedicated to providing players with a first-class experience. If you're just out for the day, the 18-hole Chateau Course is a favorite, with a few recent changes to enhance an already popular experience.

Stone Mountain Golf Club

Stone Mountain, a public golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and located 30 minutes from Atlanta, it includes accommodations and the latest upgrades, making it an outstanding choice for all types of golfers.

Stone Mountain has terrific prices and great value, but be sure to pay the $20 parking fee for your next round. Both courses are excellent but if you have a choice, the Stonemount Course is slightly superior.
