The difficulty of a golf hole can be subjective.

But when it comes to the PGA Tour there is a wealth of statistical data that tells us which holes the pros find the most difficult to play.

Here we reveal the top five strongest holes on the entire PGA Tour statistically.

5. No 12 at Torrey Pines Golf Course (South Course)

The Par 4, 504-yard 12th at Torrey Pines South sports an open fairway that invites players to be aggressive off the tee. Anything less than a well-struck drive will not allow this green to be hit twice. The perfect spot for those who miss the putt is short, as the green, which is 35 yards deep, welcomes a rising chip shot.

Because the Farmers Insurance Open is split across two Torrey Pines courses, this hole has seen less action than most on the PGA Tour but still has 10 double bogeys and a 4.406 scoring average.

4. No. 9 at TPC Twin Cities

The 502-yard par-4 ninth at TPC Twin Cities is one of the most difficult to learn but also one of the most satisfying holes to win for PGA Tour pros. The hole created by the devil Arnold Palmer saw 28 birdies in four rounds of the 3M Open this July.

Overall TPC Twin Cities isn't the most challenging course on the PGA Tour but its ninth hole spoiled plenty of scorecards this year with an average score of 4.415.

3. No 11 at Royal Troon

Walking to the tee you have time to reflect on the difficulty of the long and dangerous 11th hole at Royal Troon.

The railway runs parallel to the hole on the right for its entire length, with the connected drive almost certainly lost in the thick gorse. A long second shot awaits, and the rail is a few yards short of the green to the right. The 11th is rated as the most difficult hole in the 2024 Open Championship.

2. No 10 at Vidanta Vallarta

The Vidanta Vallarta course designed by Greg Norman at Vidanta Nuevo Nayarit-Vallarta is generally known as a fun and exciting layout that is not overly challenging as the wide landing areas near the tee open up large consistent greens although most are protected by cavernous bunkers.

During the 2024 Mexico Open this hole has held more players than few players with 24 points of +2 or worse cards in four rounds.

1. No 18 at Quail Hollow Club

The 18th at Quail Hollow measures 492 yards and its most prominent feature is a small stream that runs down the entire left side of the hole.

That stream plays a role on the tee and in the fairway. Off the tee, it encourages players to lean back and hug the right side. But it's not too far to the right as the 290-yard fairway punishes shots that leave the fairway. Players may think that playing boldly in the upper left can lead to an advantage, but this is not the case. The angle of the green favors those who play down the right side of the fairway. As a result, the risky strategy of the left does not always pay off. A score of 4.5 puts this hole at the top of the PGA Tour scorecard.
