World number one Scottie Scheffler will take a five-shot lead into the final round of the PGA Tour's season-ending Tour Championship.
After a slow start in his third round, the American finished strongly with birdies on four of the final five holes at East Lake Golf Club to put himself in line for the $25m first prize.
They helped Scheffler shoot a 26-under-par 66 and stay five strokes ahead of teammate Collin Morikawa.
Morikawa cut the deficit to two shots on the front nine, but Scheffler recovered with back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth.
“I've had my chances here to win other tournaments and I'm not going to have a better chance than Sunday,” said Scheffler, who is claiming his first FedExCup title, and lost two seasons ago when he came out on top. .
“I've been a lot better mentally this year and I'm looking forward to doing more of that tomorrow.”
Morikawa finished strong, too, with birdies on three of his last four holes to stay within touching distance of Scheffler.
“It will be very difficult, but I believe in myself that I can do it,” said Morikawa. “I've got 18 holes left in the season – I'm going to put everything I've got into the next 24 hours.”
BIG MOVERS
The big player on Saturday was Sahith Theegala, who, despite calling himself two penalties on the third hole when he admitted he had moved the sand while talking to a holeshot, finished with five birdies in a row to finish third on 17 under.
Xander Schauffele, Scheffler's closest challenger earlier in the week, is tied for fourth at 16 under after shooting a level-par 71 on Saturday.
Shane Lowry put himself in a monster position when he shot a 6-under 65 to move into 8th place, while Rory McIlroy's third-round 68 left him in a tie for 10th at 11 under.
