Tiger Woods is having surgery again, this time on his back

The surgery was done by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi of the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Fla., and it was considered a success.

“The surgery went well, and I hope this will help ease the back pain I've been experiencing throughout the 2024 season,” Woods said in a statement. “I'm looking forward to getting over this and getting ready to get back to normal life activities, including golf.”

Woods has combined for five tournaments in 2024: the Genesis Invitational, and all four majors. He withdrew from Genesis after a first round 72, citing illness. Then, he made the cut at the Masters, setting a new all-time record in the process, and eventually finished 60th. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship, US Open and Open Championship.

Last year, Woods underwent a subtalar fusion procedure to relieve painful arthritis after his previous talus fracture. Woods' last back surgery was in January 2021, when he underwent a microdiscectomy to “remove a compressed disc fragment” that was causing nerve pain.

How this latest procedure will affect Woods' playing schedule is unknown. Woods' next event on the docket was a practice appearance alongside his son, Charlie, at the PNC tournament in December, but the two have yet to officially commit. The tournament is scheduled to be played on December 19-22 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes.
