PGA Tour producer Wesley Bryan will meet in the CJ CUP Byron Nelson with two 4 irons in his bag.
Bryan has replaced his 5 iron with a second 4 iron to complement his Takomo iron.
The 'extra' 4-iron is a Titleist T200, and the movement has a lot to do with the yardage gap between the two 4 irons he'll be using.
In Texas, Bryan gave GolfWRX.com an explanation of how his Takomo 301 CB 6-iron travels between 195 and 200 yards. Then, the Titleist T200 4-iron travels 235 yards, and the new hollow-body Takomo 101U Driving Iron, which he first tested “a few weeks ago,” bends about 2 degrees weaker and has about is 220.
His Takomo 101U Driving Iron retails for $119 and Bryan believes there is a lesson for the professional and average golfer in this change.
The Takomo 101U is a barebones driver made for players looking for an explosive, forgiving alternative without the tee or fairway in mind.
“It's very forgiving and starts high, and it has a long profile where it looks great,” Bryan said. “If people are serious about playing something less expensive for their team, it beats Srixon (driving instrument). [I started testing it] a few weeks ago and it's still in the bag.
“I just made it 2 degrees weaker. Actually, that gap from 205 to 225 I was in a little dead spot, so I'll try to close that gap better. “
Learn a valuable lesson from Bryan's thoughts on yardage gap and club selection: performance and yardage are more important than club number or price.
Many pros on the PGA Tour feel they are using new equipment at the moment due to the plethora of new releases with product reps being kept very busy by their staff.
Bryan also tries out the new LAB DF3 putter which he immediately likes.
When asked how long he's been testing the putter, Bryan laughed: “About 30 minutes, and it goes in the bag. It is stable.”
Bryan and his brother George started a YouTube channel where they shared their golf videos to a growing audience. They also played in the Big Break The Palm Beaches golf program.
The brothers got into their education and maintenance when they bought the Solina Golf Course in Lexington, South Carolina.
