Toronto Maple Leafs and Mitch Marner Pending Contract Extension

Sportsnet's Luke Fox: Fox answered questions for the Toronto Maple Leafs mailbag. Mitch Marner was suggested as the question and topic of the mailbag. As Fox writes Marner is a good player for the Maple Leafs in the regular season. He wasn't traded because new coach Craig Berube wants to see if he can work his magic on Marner.

A trade this offseason was off the table because of Marner's no-movement clause. He loves playing in Toronto and wasn't about to give it up for a trade.

NHL rumors: Winnipeg Jets restricted free agent forward Cole Perfetti

He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and was eligible to sign an extension on July 1st. It doesn't seem like the Leafs GM or Marner are in any rush to make an extension happen.

When will Peyton Krebs sign a new contract in Buffalo?

Jason Moser of Buffalo Hockey Now: Moser writes that training camp opens next week and restricted free agent Peyton Krebs remains without a new contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

In June, the Sabers offered Krebs a qualifying offer to retain his signing rights. The young player is coming off his entry-level deal, and his fair offer is a mark over what he was doing in his ELC. So, there is an argument about what the player thinks he should do, and the team says he should do it.

Not to mention that the player sees himself on the list, and the team sees him on the list. Therefore, the Sabers have the upper hand, as Krebs does not establish himself as a regular NHL player.

Will the Edmonton Oilers Win the Stanley Cup With Three Players Over $10 Million?

The best solution may be to play in the new eligibility application and prove he can play at the NHL level and if he can be traded and move on from the organization or the Sabers see him as part of the team moving forward.
