Kendrick Perkins Fires Up Boston Before Season Begins

Kendrick Perkins won a championship with Boston in 2008, but he has absolutely no problem chasing them today.

Although the Celtics are heading into the 2024-25 season with the same roster that won the 2024 championship, Perkins believes the team is not afraid of the rest of the league.

“No one in the NBA is afraid of the Boston Celtics right now,” Perkins said NBA Today. “I just appreciate this. That's why the New York Knicks went out and got Mikal Bridges and improved their system. That's why the Philadelphia 76ers went out and got Paul George and improved their roster. They came to the training camp feeling happy.

“… A lot of people look at the way the Celtics went to win the NBA Championship and say they had an easy road. The competition and the teams he played against were not healthy. … There's a reason we're in this series right now because teams haven't repeated … teams get better every season.”

Perkins' comments came at the same time the Celtics held their media day.

The strange thing is that their coach Joe Mazzella explained why he did not enjoy himself for months after winning the title.

“I think attachment is something you have to be aware of, right? I think one of the challenges of this season is to move on from the past and understand that if you hold on to success or failure for a long time, that can be really dangerous,” said Mazzella. “And the world is trying to keep you stuck in the past.

“The world tries to keep you attached to your latest success or your latest failure, and that's where people get stuck where they are — it's attachment. And so it was a balance, I can't stick to this past success. It will be like being stuck in a past failure.”

Some more profound quotes from Joe are coming this season and we're here to find them.
