NHL rumors: Minnesota Wild, and Edmonton Oilers

Will the Wild view Marco Rossi as a long-term piece?

Michael Russo of The Athletic: (mailbag) If the Minnesota Wild are still uncertain about forward Marco Rossi, they could look at a bridge deal like the one Cole Perfetti signed for $3.25 million. The longer they wait, the more expensive it may be.

The Wildcats have Joel Eriksson Ek at center and could see Danila Yurov as the center of the top six, so where does that leave Rossi? Rossi doesn't really fit the mold of a third line centre.

You don't get the sense that the Wild have/are interested in Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren.

NHL Injuries: Avalanche, Red Wings, Oilers, Wild, Canadiens, Islanders, Senators, Penguins, and Sharks

The Edmonton Oilers are looking for help on defense, and they aren't worried about the offense yet.

Shawn Simpson: Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman is looking for a top-four defenseman.

“I wish you luck with that one.” Everyone in the league needs help. Being healthy and rewarding a player in your system is the only hope teams have at the start of the season.”

Jim Matheson: If the Oilers are looking for a top-four defenseman to play with Darnell Nurse, two possible options are Connor Murphy and Ivan Provorov.

Murphy is RHD with the Chicago Blackhawks and carries a $4.4 million cap hit for next season.

Povorov is left-handed but plays on the right next to Zach Werenski. He is a pending UFA with a cap hit of $4.7 million.

TSN: The Edmonton Oilers have Connor McDavid's injury concerns to deal with, and they're worrying concerns according to Darren Dreger, but there's no immediate urgency to seek outside help.

“The management does not push the panic buttons. They believe and remain convinced that abusive leaders will get their way. But if you look at the offensive divisions around the National Hockey League, for the most part, you can see why Stan Bowman and company are confident.

NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens Would Like To Acquire Controllable Assets

Yes, they rank last in actual goals scored, but they are first in shot attempts, number one in offensive zone possession, and top five in expected goals and slot shots. The message inside is to find a way to score and finish the game.”
