Nico Echavarria became the first winner on the PGA Tour with the 2025 Titleist Pro V1x and he had another professional to thank in part for the victory.
The Colombian player, who won the Puerto Rico Open in 2023, was playing a fun spot with Tyson Alexander, and, luckily, he wasn't bringing enough bullets so he tried a new prototype ball – and fell in love. what he saw.
“I was actually playing 18 holes with Tyson in Jacksonville at home,” Echavarria said at the Shriners where the Pro V1 and Pro V1x were officially launched.
“It was between Napa and Sanderson Farms, I was actually down by the balls. I didn't catch balls in my house, and he had extras and it was new, and I just tried.
“The (25 Pro V1x) was probably a hair faster and something I felt a touch spinnier around the greens. It worked very well last week [at the Black Desert Championship] by height. I struggled to hit my numbers at altitude and this was pretty good for what the numbers were.”

The 30-year-old will miss the cut at Sanderson Farms and Shriners but, in between, there was an 11th-place finish at Black Desert in Utah and he is now the winner of the Zozo Championship after holding off Max. Greyserman and Justin Thomas.
He was more than 10 shots better than the field from tee to green which placed him second in the field at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club. He also ranked second in birdies (24).
He added that his test plan was to do everything on the course rather than hitting a bunch of balls using a launch monitor.
“One thing we control is the ball and for me it's about playing and seeing it while I'm playing rather than at the level because when I hit the ball I don't go where it goes.
“I'd rather try them on the course, see if the numbers I feel are right, where it sits on the green, how it reacts to the green, how it flies with the wind, what I thought, maybe not what I thought, maybe wait a long time and adjust and see if you like it or not.”
Twenty-eight players were playing new balls in Japan, from 48 Titleist users, which was more than five times the nearest competitors (9).
