Christmas gift ideas for the mountain bike in your life
If you're like me, shopping for gifts can be difficult. What do they want? What do they have? Can I afford it?
Sometimes this can be very difficult, and I am doing another year of giving away socks and undies.
To avoid this, I reached out to our contributors to pick some hot gift ideas for the mountain biker in your life. You are welcome!
Mike is not new to AMB, as he has been in charge for years. Mike continues to support AMB as an occasional donor and loves the bikepacking tent! Here are Mike's ideas for gift giving this year: the gift of words and tools.
'The best gift for the mountain biker in your life is to sign up to AMB – there's nothing like news and advice delivered to your door'.
(Editor's note: Mike was never paid to say that)
'Some of the best gifts I've received are great for mountain biking, but they're also useful for many other things. Leatherman Squirt is one of those things. It's small enough to take all-day epics, handy enough to carry, and versatile enough to find room in a pocket or purse for everything I do outdoors.'
Brisbane contributor Bam da Silva follows the theme of the tool:
“Think of a tool that you know a good friend needs. This is always a great gift. A set of Wera Allen keys, a good set of cutters, or maybe an extended chain tool”.
Ben 'Moshy' Morrison recommends only one thing to the mountain biker in your life:
“The best gift, I think, would be the Dynaplug Racer. Very useful and hard to find! “
Contributor Kath Bicknell suggested a number of ideas for the mountain biker who doesn't want/need other tools in his arsenal:
“A 'Keep Tassie Wild' t-shirt or hoodie. 50% of profits go to Tassie environmental organizations to keep riding there in the future!”
An online mental skills course for mountain bikers from Intelligent Action! A new way to keep improving your mountain biking from the comfort of your bed when you're sick, injured, or the trails are underwater! The first course, 'Using cues to reduce mental overload' launches in November. Learn the techniques for good cycling when 'just doing' is not enough.
As an editor, my recommendations are as follows;
The gift of time: whether it's a weekend away to explore new trails, a sleepover bike park, a few days at Thredbo, or an event like the Quad Crown Black Pearl. My time is at a premium (as are most students!), and the ability to get away without guilt is unmatched.
It doesn't have to be expensive; A day of exploring new trails and a picnic can be fun with a low-cost option.
Do you want to spend a lot of money? Crankworx Whistler or the BC Bike Race are bucket list events that require more travel.
