After Back-and-forth Efforts, Wild Secure 4-2 Win Over Blues – Hockey Writers – Minnesota Wild
Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues face off in a divisional game on Tuesday evening, Nov. 19 in St. The Wild were looking to get back to winning ways after losing to their division rival, the Dallas Stars, on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Blues were also looking to redeem themselves after losing to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday, Nov. 17. The goalkeeper match was Filip Gustavsson against Jordan Binington.
Both teams had injured players coming back from the roster, with Robert Thomas of the Blues having broken his ankle which made him miss the last four weeks. The Wild got Jonas Brodin back after missing the last two games, and Joel Eriksson Ek returned after missing nearly two full games. It was a back-and-forth effort for both teams, but the Wild found a way out with a 4-2 victory to move them to 12-3-3, while the Blues fell to 8-11-1.
Recap of the game
Things started with the Blues dominating most of the game at the start of the first half, but it got better as time went on. The Wild finally found their groove and took control with a Ryan Hartman goal off a Marco Rossi goal. Brock Faber started the entire game by running back to catch the puck that passed him. He threw it to Rossi, who fought with other Blues players and got it to Hartman, who took care of the others.
That was the only goal of the first, and the Wild took a 1-0 lead. However, the second half went backwards for the Blues as they responded with a draw. The Blues goal was scored thanks to a strong breakout game that almost every Blues player on the ice was able to touch. It started in their defense, and they kept passing until Scott Perunovich headed it home with a snipe over Gustavsson's glove. Jordan Kyrou and Zack Bolduc helped him, and the second one was tied 1-1.
The third period saw the Wild gain momentum, and their leading scorer, Kirill Kaprizov, extended his scoring streak to three straight games to give his team a 2-1 lead. It didn't last long though, as Blues Thomas started their power play where Jake Neighbors put the ball in Pavel Buchnevich's goal, and they tied the game again, 2-2.
This time, the Wild responded a few minutes later to regain the lead when Jonas Brodin deflected a Blues player's shot past Binnington. The Blues couldn't respond as they had all game, and Kaprizov scored his second goal into an empty net shortly after to secure a 4-2 lead and eventually win a few minutes later.
The Wild will continue on the road as they head north to face the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday evening, Nov. 21. The Blues will stay at home and host the San Jose Sharks on Thursday evening as well.
