What you need to know about Fox Chapel
This restoration by Tom Marzolf was a strong return to Raynor's 1925 vision, some of which had been lost based on advice the club received from AW Tillinghast in the 1930s. Raynor fans are left with plenty to enjoy, including the Lion's Mouth bunker restored on the 9th, the Double Plateau green restored on the 13th and the famous Bottle hole bunkering scheme returned on the 16th. All the approaches were covered with sand, and the effect was solid. which allows for short game intelligence. Additionally, short grass now surrounds the green pads, ensuring more shot options. Panelist Barry Doyle suggested that Fox Chapel could now be home to Raynor's best set of greens.
What our viewers say
“Raynor's principles may have been lost over the years, but they are back and better than ever. Marzolf now makes you think of tee photos. There is architectural bunkering that is often seen on every tee shot and every shot after that. The template holes are amazing. I think they are the best anywhere, except for Chicago Golf. “
“If you've never had Fox Chapel, you're missing out on a real treat.”
