Cleveland Golf Launcher HiBore XL Drivers: 6 Things You Should Know
Cleveland Golf
Cleveland Golf is the latest OEM to enter the world of artificial intelligence to make golf clubs.
In bringing back the famous HiBore name for its Launcher HiBore XL drivers, the company turned to AI to fine-tune the shape of the new driver, which it says is the most forgiving.
“As our R&D research progressed in tandem with the development of our AI simulation capabilities, it was discovered that removing the constraints of the 'traditional' looking Driver shape would allow for new and exciting performance opportunities,” said senior product manager Casey Shultz in the release. “Using HiBore's unique design philosophy from the first performance, we were able to unlock levels of forgiveness and distance that would not have been there before. But there is one important difference with the new model compared to the old one… it also feels it's delicious!”
Here are six things you should know about Cleveland Launcher HiBore XL drivers.
Triangular chassis
One of the first things golfers will notice about the new HiBore drivers is that they feature a triangular shape, unlike the round or pear-shaped driver common today. The sharp angles are intended to increase forgiveness and the shape was created using AI simulation to reduce the head, allowing you to meet the desired head volume.
This also helps support a face that is 19 percent larger than the company's previous driver, which translates into an extended sweet spot.
The triangular design also means that the sound profile of the driver is improved acoustically without the use of internal ribs.
ActiveWing
On the heel side of the crown are small airfoil-like shapes that Cleveland calls ActiveWing technology. Since the heel of the club leads the clubhead at impact, the company uses ActiveWing to tune aerodynamics and improve consistency at impact.
The new technology is specially designed to provide more stability on the descent.
It has been disputed
The new HiBore drivers will come stock with an 8 gram weight added to the end of the shaft to slightly balance the club. Action Mass CB will help players maintain control of the club, without extra effort.
HiBore XL Lite
For players who struggle with the piece or need a little more distance, the HiBore XL Lite is the lightest option in the lineup. The Lite version also has weight concentrated in the heel to generate draw bias, but also maintains the MOI and ball speed benefits of the regular version.
Flexibility
Cleveland ups its game in the adjustability department with both drivers in the lineup with a new 1.5-degree loft sleeve. The HiBore XL driver will also have a 12-gram weight behind the club head so players can dial in their preferred swing weight.
