Seattle Kraken Call Up Ryan Winterton From Coachella Valley Firebirds – Hockey Writers – Seattle Kraken

There is no rest for the weary. Less than a day after being beaten at home 5-2 by the Anaheim Ducks, the Seattle Kraken are receiving reinforcements from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Happy Thanksgiving, Ryan Winterton, the Kraken need you.

Seattle Needs a Spark

As of Nov. 28, Seattle's 2024-25 season could go either way. In 11-11-1, the club essentially remains stationary. Nine teams in the Western Conference accumulated more points, and St. Louis Blues tallied the same number (23).

But discord has plagued the team since the start of the season. The latter, an impressive six-game stretch in which head coach Dan Bylsma went 5-1-0, was followed by two losses in three games. The last blemish was the Ducks' home loss on Nov. 27, just two days after beating Anaheim as a road team.

Rather than take out the US vacation, the management stayed at work and chose to add some youth and spunk to the lineup. Winterton is a 2021, third-round pick by the Kraken. He finally put his skate blades on NHL ice last season nine games into the season. During that time he registered no points and was minus-1.

He has played one game this season. It was November 5th away to the Colorado Avalanche, a clash that ended in a 6-3 loss. The leading scorer was minus-3 that night.

That said, his AHL stats are solid. He scored 35 points in 58 games in 2023-24 (22 goals, 13 assists) and has 15 points in 16 contests this season (seven goals, eight assists).

How Bylsma plans to use him is unknown at the time of writing, though putting him in the same lineup as former Firebird teammate Shane Wright would make sense.

The Krakens next play the San Jose Sharks on Friday (Nov. 29).
