The Dallas Stars (16-9-0) and the Los Angeles Kings (15-8-3) battled on Wednesday night at the Crypto.com Arena in Southern California. The first half started slowly with Amakhosi trailing Stars 2-0 after 20 minutes of play. Amakhosi came back in the second half to tie the game as the third saw a lot of goals, Amakhosi eventually won.
Stars Take First Time by Storm
Roope Hintz stole Anže Kopitar's first faceoff, and the Stars quickly got the puck, looking for a first-down opportunity. Wyatt Johnston turned the lights on with a wrist shot for the Stars, giving them a 1-0 lead with 17:26 left in the period. After a failed play from the Kings, Mason Marchment scored on David Rittich's goal at 6:20. The Stars continued to dominate the first half, limiting the Kings' scoring chances.
Kings Come Back to Tie the Game
The second half started with increasing pressure on the Kings and it seemed to change the momentum. Tanner Jeannot's wrist shot found the back of Jake Oettinger's net at 15:20. Slowly, Amakhosi seemed to be swinging better and creating more chances to score goals. Marchment aimed to extend the lead, forcing Rittich to make a spectacular save that was doomed. Frustrated by the Kings' strong performance, Jamie Benn was handed a minor penalty for fouling Brandt Clarke. In the final period, Joel Edmundson scored his fourth goal of the season, tying the game at 4:22. A tense and exciting second half ended with both teams heading to the dressing room tied.
Kings Edge Out Stars in an exciting match
After 40 minutes of hockey, the players hit the ice for the final frame. After missing a shot, Warren Foegele buried and took advantage of the game at the 17:38 mark. Amakhosi, who were leading 3-2, pushed for another goal. The Stars tried to find a way to score the equalizer and extend it to overtime but failed. In 60 minutes of play (and many penalties later), the game ended with 28 goals for the Stars and 18 for the Kings. Rittich's strong scoring was key to the Kings' 3-2 win.
