Hurricanes Get Back In Win Column Following 5-3 Victory Over Avalanche – Hockey Writers – NHL News
The Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night (Dec. 5) host the Colorado Avalanche in their final game of the regular season. Coming off a tough loss to the Seattle Kraken, Carolina looked to get back into the win column. Meanwhile, Colorado entered the game looking to build on a 5-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres. In the end, the Hurricanes defeated the Avalanche 5-3 for their 17th win of the season and 10th at the Lenovo Center.

Head coach Rod Brind'Amour met with the media for a pregame media availability there Hockey Writers they were able to ask him about deep scoring, especially on Jack Roslovic, Eric Robinson, and Jackson Blake. He said, “That's how our team works. We get four lines that can score and check. You can do those things, and you need that when everybody's playing and getting contributions from everybody.” Safe to say, deep scoring caught the Hurricanes off guard again.

Artturi Lehkonen got the Avalanche on the board first after he came in on a pass from Cale Makar. There was nothing goalkeeper Pyotr Kochetkov could do with someone like Lehkonen in a 1-on-1 game. Robinson tied the game with less than four minutes left in the first half. Martin Necas had the second assist for his 40th point of the season. Avalanche netminder Scott Wedgewood and Kochetkov stood tall for their teams even though it was 1-1 after one period.
The second half belonged to the Hurricanes as the power play came with a third chance Seth Jarvis gave the team their first lead of the game. It was a complete snipe over Wedgewood shortly after entering the area. It didn't end there, as Roslovic added another to his thirteen goals of the season. After both Hurricanes' goals, the home team went into the second halftime with a 3-1 lead.

Last time there were four goals, two from each side. The Avalanche's Valeri Nichushkin scored two of his own, the first of the period, and the second came 24 seconds after Necas' power play goal. After Nichushkin's second goal, Andrei Svechnikov sealed the night's four-point lead with an empty netter 15.8 seconds into the game. The Hurricanes finished with a 5-3 lead to make it three games in a row.
