Erik ten Hag vows to fight back after Crystal Palace's humiliating defeat

Erik ten Hag remains confident in his ability to turn things around at Manchester United, despite the Red Devils' poor season going from bad to worse with Monday's 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.

United produced their worst performance of the season at Selhurst Park as Michael Olise scored twice for Oliver Glasner's Eagles, while Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell also found the net.

Ten Hag's side have now won one of their last seven Premier League games, and sit in eighth place with tough games against Arsenal, Brighton and Hove Albion and the upcoming Newcastle United.

They are now in serious danger of missing out on European games next season, which will not do much for the hopes of the Dutch coach who remains in charge of the first transfer window under Jim Ratcliffe.

Asked if he was the right man to oversee another renewal at Old Trafford, Ten Hag told Sky Sports: “Absolutely.

“If the right players are there and they are there, we have a good team but we have missed the whole team. All season we had big injury problems. It is the fourth defeat this year, and not by much.

“I will continue to fight. I prepared the team as best as I could. It wasn't good enough… it wasn't good enough until now. I take responsibility, but I will find strength and prepare them for Sunday.

“This is not working well. We didn't do as well as we wanted, it wasn't good enough. The fans fell behind and we had to keep fighting like our fans do.”

Playing at centre-back, Casemiro endured a poor performance at Selhurst Park, seeing two goals disallowed and conceding at least two Palace goals at the other end.

Ten Hag however refused to criticize any of his players, saying: “You can't put this down to one player.

“It's a team sport. The throw-in that led to the first goal… that shouldn't happen.

“It's in the group, not following our rules and not adapting to slightly different situations, not staying organized and controlling the situation.”
