Former Man Utd manager insists Erik ten Hag needs to leave the Red Devils

The former coach of Manchester United, Rene Meulensteen, has announced that it is time for Erik ten Hag to throw in the towel, saying that the Dutchman does not have what it takes to handle the giants of the Premier League.

To say that it's been a difficult season for the Red Devils is an understatement – the club find themselves in eighth place in the Premier League, with a tough challenge to get into Europe.

Apart from the prospect of silverware in the FA Cup final against Manchester City later this month, United's season has been marred by a staggering 18 defeats in all competitions.

Meulensteen, who has six years of experience at the club as a first-team coach under Sir Alex Ferguson, is strongly advocating for a change in leadership as Ten Hag's contract expires next summer.

“Manchester United's tendency is that they have gone backwards, and that is a concern,” said Meulensteen Manchester Evening News.

“Nothing comes out of it because the numbers support that. It's that simple. You look at their Champions League campaign, you look at their Premier League campaign, 13 defeats, goal difference minus three. They're in. 8th place in the Premier League.

“They are not guaranteed to get into Europe. There are many signs that they are not going in the right direction. If you analyze those situations, you can say clearly, Erik ten Hag is probably not the right person to lead Manchester United. forward.”

Meulensteen added: “Now, obviously, we also know that all the changes were happening behind the scenes when Jim Radcliffe came in, Sir David Brailsford and then, Barretta, they came in, Wilcox, maybe Ashworth. So, there's a lot going on behind the scenes.

“And the most important person to answer that question if Erik ten Hag is a good man are those I mentioned. And I am sure that those people must have conversations with Erik ten Hag already, with the staff, with the players, to make a good judgment about that, because he is not a bad coach, and I am sure that He is not a bad manager because his previous record with Ajax has proven that.”

United host Arsenal on Sunday, aiming to throw a spanner in the works for their Premier League title ambitions. The last time the teams met, the Gunners won thanks to two late goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus.
