Ange Postecoglou reveals the update following the Copa America omission

The coach of Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou, insisted that he is still waiting for the results of the tests to know the extent of Richarlison's injury.

Postecoglou said at a press conference on Friday that he had no new injury concerns when they face Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

However, shortly after the end of his press conference, Brazil confirmed its 23-man squad for the Copa America and did not select regular match Richarlison, and Selecao coach Dorival Junior later confirmed that this was due to a new injury.

Richarlison was not named in Spurs' matchday squad for their 2-1 win against Burnley but appeared to be in good shape on the pitch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the first team began their end-of-season campaign.

Speaking after that win over the Clarets, Postecoglou – who has also hit back at suggestions he lied about players' fitness in press conferences this season – clarified the situation with Richarlison, insisting he did not see the extent of his issue.

“It was unfortunate, I know I did a press conference yesterday, but it happened [the injury] it was the last kick of the game and I saw him jumping and I thought it was nothing serious,” said Postecoglou.

“Then it didn't get better in the evening and he was sent a scan on his calf and I still don't know the results of that if I'm being honest. But if you look at him today he was still thrashing.”

Richarlison has had to battle through various injuries this season but is likely to finish the campaign with 11 goals and four assists in 28 Premier League appearances.

Porto striker Evanilson has been left out of Brazil's Copa America squad.
