Celtic are in talks to sell the £14,000-a-week star who Rodgers has called “a miracle”.

Celtic have been hit hard as it has emerged that they are in talks to sell one of their key players this summer.

Thanks to their 2-1 win over Rangers, Brendan Rodgers and Celtic are on the cusp of another Scottish Premiership title. The Boys are six points clear of their Glasgow rivals with just two games to play, and also have a seven-goal advantage over Rangers.

Because of this, they can win the title on Tuesday if Rangers slip against Dundee, or on Wednesday if Celtic face Kilmarnock.

It hasn't been a vintage season for Rodgers or his team, but it looks set to end in silverware nonetheless, when they face Rangers again to decide the winner of the Scottish Cup in 10 days' time. It looks like the summer could be busy, goalkeeper Joe Hart has announced that he will leave the team, and others may follow him out the door.

Celtic are in talks to sell Matt O'Riley

Now, it has emerged that Matt O'Riley could be another target for an exit this summer.

The Danish player was linked with Atletico Madrid in January, and the Spanish club even turned him down. Now, however, reports from his country, relayed by Sport Witness, say that the Premier League has come knocking, and that two clubs from the top six are in talks to take the midfielder to England this summer.

O'Riley is clearly a popular figure at Celtic Park, and was praised by Rodgers earlier in the week for his work rate, determination and consistency, at an awards ceremony where the midfielder was awarded the Hoops' young player of the year, Player's Player. of the Year and Player of the Year.

“He was really amazing in his consistency. I think if we were missing something as a team, maybe that was it. But from an individual point of view to get his goal back… I think someone said he scored his first goal [of last season] in January of last year.

“So looking at his numbers now, it's a great testimony to him because the work he does, his focus every day on training to improve and become better, that's clear that he was rewarded by his teammates and everyone else. It's so worth it.”

The 23-year-old has penned a new deal with Celtic until September 2023 but is thought to take home just £14,000-a-week, a figure that could rise several times should he switch to the Premier League.

No fee has been mentioned, but it is likely that Celtic will be looking for a record deal (currently the £25m Arsenal are paying Kieran Tierney) should he leave this summer.
