Erik ten Hag says “very slim chance” Luke Shaw will be fit for Euro 2024
The coach of Man United, Erik ten Hag, has revealed that Luke Shaw is very doubtful to enter the England team that will play in the European Championship as the left-back continues to struggle with injury problems.
This position has become a problem area for Gareth Southgate when he goes to the tournament in Germany as Shaw is not fit and Ben Chilwell has also had injury problems throughout the season. Joe Gomez has excelled in the role for Liverpool at times this season but the Three Lions boss will be looking for a natural defender in the position.
Southgate would have hoped that Shaw would be able to travel to Germany this summer but Erik ten Hag has confirmed that the Englishman is a serious doubt for the FA Cup final and possibly the Euros.
“In England, I can't say but for the cup final we are working on it,” said the Man United manager via the Daily Mail.
“Harry Maguire you have a good chance that you will be found. Luke is very weird at this point, let's just say the chances of him succeeding are slim but still a very slim chance.
“You had a distraction, now we have to find out how far.”
Man United's Luke Shaw has doubts about Euro 2024
Gareth Southgate will name his provisional England squad Euro 2024 On Tuesday and by the time we arrive, Shaw will certainly not be ready. It would be a big risk if the manager of the Three Lions appoints a left-back as even if he is fit but the intensity of his game will be low.
The 28-year-old has not featured for Man United since February and has only made 15 appearances for the Red Devils this campaign.
It is unlikely that Southgate will include Shaw in his team for the Euros but due to his absence, the England coach may be taking a risk.
