In a shocking incident early Friday morning, Scottie Scheffler was arrested by police in Valhalla before the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship, according to a report from ESPN's Jeff Darlington.
Darlington, who witnessed the incident, first shared the details in a tweet and later live on ESPN.
According to Darlington, as Scheffler drove into the Valhalla parking lot around 6 a.m. ET Friday morning, an officer attempted to stop Scheffler's car, but Scheffler continued to drive a short distance. The situation quickly escalated.
“The policeman then shouted at Scheffler to get out of the car. When Scheffler got out of the car, the officer shoved Scheffler into the car and quickly handcuffed him,” Darlington wrote in X. “Now he is tied to the back of a police car.”
Darlington joined ESPN's Sportscenter shortly after the incident, where he shared some details.
“The police officer escalated the situation as he wanted Scheffler to stop the car. Scheffler then moved the car forward, and told the officer, 'I continued to move the car,'” Darlington told ESPN.
He continued, “So according to that, it was not an escalation as the police officer clearly stated that he wanted Scottie Scheffler to stop the car. Scottie Scheffler didn't stop the car for 10-20 yards.

ESPN reported that Scheffler was taken into police custody at 7:28 a.m. ET. It is not clear if Scheffler has been removed from the policy.
The incident involving Scheffler is unrelated to the “serious accident” that occurred near Valhalla early Friday morning. Tournament officials announced that the second round would be delayed until 8:35 am ET due to the incident, a delay of one hour and 20 minutes. Scheffler's time is 10:08 am
Scheffler, currently the World No. 1, shot a one-under 67 on Thursday in the opening round at Valhalla to put himself in contention for the second major of the year. And it's a position he's not used to. Scheffler has won four of his last five tournaments, including his second Masters victory at Augusta National in April.
Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, also welcomed their first child last week.
