Spurs are on the hunt for a £43m “outstanding” goalscorer who could charge Son

Tottenham Hotspur fans have a lot to be excited about this season, be it the brilliant style of football Ange Postecoglou has been playing or the emergence of talents like Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr.

However, the fact that a team that went 10 games unbeaten at the start of the Premier League campaign is about to finish outside the Champions League places indicates that other areas need work, not just the defence.

There are only two players in the Lilywhites team who have scored two goals this season, Richarlison and Son Heung-min, but neither has done the same with an assist.

Son has reached nine, but the lack of finishers around him has prevented him from getting more, which if recent reports are to be believed, could change soon.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from German publication SportBILD (via Sports Witness), Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush is currently being 'hunted' by several English clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.

The publication did not reveal who those other parties are, but they say signing the Egyptian would cost Spurs at least €50m – £43m and while there may be room for flexibility now, the Champions League final could end it.

This is because a win for Borussia Dortmund against Real Madrid at Wembley will see Frankfurt enter Europe's top competition, and therefore, earn more money and prestige to hold on to any potential negotiations in the summer.

It would be expensive for Daniel Levy and Co to finish, but with Postecoglou's side lacking real goals to get on the end of Son's passes, it could be worth the chase.

How Omar Marmoush can charge the Son

Now, while five defeats in the last six represent the kind of year Spurs have had in 2024, Son has still managed 17 goals and nine assists in 35 games for the north Londoners.

However, in the 14 games he has played since his return from the Asian Cup, he has provided only four assists, which, although not too poor, could have been better and perhaps even better if he had played with more goal-scoring attackers.

For example, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson scored only 11 goals combined this year, while Richarlison's 12 brought the total to 23, while the “outstanding” Marmoush, as described by his agent Michael Reschke, scored a goal. 16 times this season and provided six assists to boot.

Furthermore, comparing the basic numbers of the Wolfsburg ace to that of Richarlison – Spurs' most successful striker – again shows that the Frankfurt goal machine could be a good addition to Postecoglou's set-up.

For example, while he ranks second best in 90 other metrics, such as expected goals and assists, goals, and shots, he is miles ahead in many others, including assists and assists, assists received, pass accuracy, shots. and goal-creating actions, and successful takeovers, that can help make room for the Son to exploit in the coming year.

In the end, it would be a huge investment for the team, but due to the lack of real goalscorers in the team to help the captain if he can't finish the chances, it would be worth it.
