Hunter McKown had a goal and an assist, Jet Greaves made 17 saves, and Cleveland took a 2-0 lead in the North Division Finals with a 4-1 victory over Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.
The Crunch return home as they face elimination in Game 3 on Wednesday.
Devante Stephens hit a power play 8:07 into the game to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead, but more than three minutes remained before the Monsters tied it Billy Sweezey the goal that entered the middle of the pad of Brandon Halverson and the nearest post office.
Cleveland took the lead on McKown's goal with 4:42 left in the first period, as he tipped in Halverson's pass for his first goal since March 12.
