Terence Crawford's TRAINER, Bernie 'Tha Boxer' Davies, predicts WBC junior middleweight champion Sebastian Funsora will stop Errol Spence Jr.
Bernie says Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) landed a bigger puncher than Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) with his twelve-round split decision over WBO 154-lb champion Tim Tszyu in March the past.
Davies believes that Spence will not be able to achieve the same success he achieved at 154 when he fought at welterweight, where he held three belts until he was stopped in the ninth round by Crawford last July.
Spence Will Fight at Junior Middleweight
Despite Bernie feeling that Spence will lose to the 6'6″ 'Towering Inferno' Fundora, he still feels he has more to do for the sport, but NOT in a junior middleweight fight against this guy.
“I think they're smart to walk away from Bud Crawford,” Bernie 'Tha Boxer' Davis told Fighthype about Sebastian Fundora reportedly planning to vacate his WBO junior middleweight title ahead of his fight with Errol Spence in October.
Even if Spence wanted an immediate rematch with Crawford, he wasn't going to get it. Crawford is focused on the non-controversy at 154, and will face WBA champion Israel Madrimov on August 3. Crawford will only fight Spence now if he defeats Fundora to claim his WBC junior middleweight title.
“I found Fundora. I don't see Spence being a dominant junior middleweight. You have a good reputation. I don't think he hits as hard as Tim Tszyu. I pick Fundora in that fight. I don't think he has one KO potential. I don't see him dominating these guys.
“Towering Inferno” by Fumora
“I saw the 'Towering Inferno' [Fundora] loading him and hitting him with the kitchen sink. Maybe a little sympathy,” Bernie said when asked about his thoughts on Spence, telling X that it might be the last time boxing fans see him.
Fundora will try to take Spence out, but it won't be easy because he fights tall guys well, and this striker is not in the same league as Crawford. Spence had problems against Crawford because he was overweight and coming off a year.
“I think he still has a lot to offer. “I don't know how much he will dominate, but I still think he has a lot to offer,” said Davies. “But he has achieved a lot. If he chooses to retire, that's up to him. He will probably retire if Fundora beats his a**. Fundora is going to kick her ass.”
Bernie is right about Spence's potential retirement if he loses to Fundora. It would be pointless for Spence to hang on if he can't beat this guy because that will show that he won't be part of the junior middleweight division.
“I don't see him beating Fundora. He has Crawford close by. I might give up. I might go somewhere else. “I might retire,” said Bernie.
