Oilers Advance To 2nd Round After Defeat Kings 4-3 In Game 5 – Hockey Writers – Edmonton Oilers
After a strong 1-0 win in Game 4 that brought their series to 3-1, the Edmonton Oilers finished off the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in Game 5 to advance to the second round for the third year in a row. With Evan Bouchard providing the only offense in Game 4, the big boys are back in Game 5 with the usual suspects in Leon Draisaitl, Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman all on the score sheet.
Evander Kane opened the scoring in the second half of the playoffs and Alex Laferriere responded with his first goal of the postseason off a bump that sent Stuart Skinner into the net. The second half saw Blake Lizotte give the Kings their first lead, but saw the Oilers respond with three unanswered goals – two by Draisaitl and one by Hyman, which was his seventh of the league in the postseason. McDavid assisted on both of Draisaitl's goals to bring his assists to 11, which also leads all players in the playoffs.
Hyman has become a playoff player during his time with the Oilers. Since signing with Edmonton ahead of the 2021-22 season, he has 21 goals, including 11 during the Oilers' run to the Western Conference Final in 2022.

The Kings got Adrian Kempe's last one late, but that was too close, and the Rogers Place faithful went home happy knowing they would see off their Oilers in the second round for the third year in a row.
The Oilers move on to face the Canucks or the Predators
With a 4-3 win, the Oilers will face either the Vancouver Canucks or the Nashville Predators in the second round. If the Canucks finish their series against the Predators, it will be Canada's first game since the Battle of Alberta back in 2022.
