Savio was labeled “special” by his manager ahead of the Man City move
Man City will welcome Savio to the Etihad Stadium this summer and Girona boss Michel said the player is “the best player I have ever had”.
It was confirmed in February that the 20-year-old will join Man City from French side Troyes ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, when his loan deal with Girona expires at the end of the season. All of these clubs are part of the City Football Group so the Brazilian's final destination has always been a Premier League club.
The signing is very exciting for Man City compared to the defender's performances in Spain this season. Savio has scored 10 goals and assisted a further nine in 37 games for Girona, who have found themselves in unlikely title contention for much of the campaign.
Speaking about the 20-year-old, Girona manager Michel said the Brazilian star is “the best player I've ever had”.
“When I saw Sávio in the first training session I said: we will play in Europe next season, he is special. He is the best player I have ever had,” said the Spanish coach Fabrizio Romano.
What will Savio bring to Man City?
Savio will not make an immediate impact at Man City due to his age and will certainly be relieved in the Premier League by Pep Guardiola.
The Brazilian has featured heavily on the left wing for Girona this season and at the Etihad, he will compete with Jack Grealish and Jérémy Doku for that role. The 20-year-old can also play on the right-back so that flexibility will be of great help to Guardiola.
Savio is a proper winger and will bring pace and creativity to City when he arrives. The Girona star is doing a lot of things well but under the young Guardiola he could go to another level.
