Who is Slavko Vincic, the referee for Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid in the Champions League final?
UEFA has appointed Slavko Vincic as the referee for the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 1. In European football, there is no greater honour.
But what do we know about Vincic?
Vincic is from Slovenia – the same country as UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin. He was born in Maribor 44 years ago and has been an internationally ranked referee since 2010.
He made headlines in 2020 when he was wrongfully arrested in Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of a police raid on a drug farm and prostitution ring. He was released as soon as no further action was taken when the police realized that he did not know the other arrested people.
