The British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) has appointed Scott Reeves as Head of Membership, responsible for the development of the association's membership activities.
Reeves, 53, was the course manager at Leyland Golf Club, where he spent 17 years. He began his greenskeeping career at Wycombe Heights Golf Club, Buckinghamshire, followed by spells at Stock Brook Country Club in Essex and Chobham Golf Club in Surrey, before moving to Lancashire in 2003.
He spent three years at Preston Golf Club before working for one year with Saxon Industries in a sales role. He then returned to managing the course at Leyland Golf Club in 2007.
Reeves has volunteered at all levels of BIGGA, culminating in being named the organization's chairman in 2019. The COVID pandemic struck during Reeve's tenure and he worked closely with BIGGA CEO Jim Croxton, BIGGA staff and the National Board as the organization dealt with the upheaval. of that time, to ensure that BIGGA is well placed to provide support and guidance where needed.
After his time as chairman, Reeves continued to be involved with BIGGA and is currently studying for the Golf Club Management Diploma, jointly run by the GCMA, PGA and BIGGA. He also served on the Golf Club's Salary Committee for many years.
Following recent restructuring, the position of Head of Membership has been created by BIGGA. Reeves will be responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of the organization's membership strategy, as well as assuming a senior leadership role within the organization. He will work closely with all BIGGA departments to ensure that the association fulfills its mission to members, while seeking to improve BIGGA's activities and contributions.
Reeves said: “What attracted me to this job was the huge opportunity. One of the things I appreciated most about my time as a greenkeeper volunteer with BIGGA was the opportunity to make the world a better place for greenkeepers, as we always say. With little time left, focusing on my work as a greenkeeper, it helped me realize what an important resource BIGGA is.
“What I can say to BIGGA members is that one of us has joined the association. I am a person who understands and understands your challenges as I have faced many of them myself. We are here to help, support and ensure you can access all that BIGGA has to offer, create a better career for yourself and a stronger industry for everyone.”
BIGGA CEO, Jim Croxton, said: “We have worked hard to identify the right person for this position and we are testing all applicants as the Head of Membership will play a major role in shaping the future of the organization in the years to come.
“We had some great applications but Scott's passion for conservation and belief in the value BIGGA brings to the industry stood out. He has been involved in committee work at all levels, including chairing the association from 2019 to 2022, a period that included the COVID pandemic and was therefore one of the most challenging in our history.
“I am delighted that Scott has joined the Association and I look forward to starting what I believe is the next chapter in BIGGA's history.”
