NHL News: Edmonton Oilers Extend Leon Draisaitl to Eight Years

The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Leon Draisaitl to an eight-year, $112 million contract worth an estimated $14 million.

David Pagnotta: Oilers GM Stan Bowman: “This is a historic day for the Edmonton Oilers. Leon's dedication to our team, our city and Oilers fans everywhere cannot be overstated. His desire to help bring a Stanley Cup home to Edmonton is central to everything he does on and off the ice.”

Thoughts from the media

Ryan Rishaug: “For me, this agreement means the willingness of Draisaitl to make a reasonable agreement, certainly not to increase what could have been with freedom. It's a big deal being locked up for 8 years, and you have to think that this helps a lot with McDavid's extension this coming summer. “
