Daniel Farke admits “mistake” after sending off Leeds player against QPR
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has admitted he made a “mistake” in sending off Sam Byram during the Yorkshire side's 4-0 defeat by QPR last week.
2024 has been a great year for Leeds but in recent weeks, things have started to fall apart as the Championship push for automatic promotion to the Premier League. The Yorkshire team has won one of the last five games and it looks like they will have to go to the play offs if they want to return to the top division in England.
Heading into the final day of the season, Leeds need a win against fourth-placed Southampton and hope Huddersfield can do the impossible by beating Ipswich.
The end was painful for Leeds' season as they were beaten 4-0 by QPR. Speaking to the media on Thursday, Farke admitted he made a mistake in the game at Loftus Road as he regretted taking Sam Byram off Mateo Joseph in the second half.
“Second half, two set-pieces and the game is over. It was serious for me because I had beaten Byram 2-0 and this was a mistake. I thought that right now, the second game in four days, we know his injury CV,” said the German coach via Leeds United News.
“We were looking for an attacking player like Mateo Joseph. What's going on? We concede a third when Byram is usually on a set-piece. This is where Matheo was involved. The fourth time Byram will be there again. “
The Play Offs will be tough for Leeds United
Barring any miracle on the final day of the Championship, Leeds will need to go through the play-offs to return to the Premier League and that will not be an easy task.
The Yorkshire club will fight for promotion from Southampton, Norwich and West Brom or Hull City.
Daniel Farke's men will fancy their chances but given the results in recent weeks, the club's supporters will be worried as anything can happen when it comes to Championship games.
