Then, 39 seconds into the third period, who else but Nathan MacKinnon got in a juicy rebound in the gap to level the scores at 3-3. As the law progressed, so did Dallas look more sluggish, Colorado showing more of a trend in its progression.
After overtime, the Stars started with renewed energy. It wouldn't be enough, however, as the Avalanche completed the comeback when Miles Wood slipped past defenseman Miro Heiskanen to drive the puck past an outstretched Jake Oettinger. Make the final 4-3 for Colorado, who now lead 1-0.
Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday evening in Dallas.
