The England defender has blamed Man Utd's staff for injuries ahead of Euro 2024
Luke Shaw believes Manchester United's doctors are to blame for the training issue plaguing him ahead of the European Championship.
Shaw has been named in Gareth Southgate's squad for the tournament in Germany, and the Three Lions will begin their group games against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen next Sunday.
However, the left-back's availability for that game is still in doubt as he continues to suffer from a hamstring injury in Man Utd's Premier League match against Aston Villa in February.
Shaw was forced off during the 2-1 win at Villa Park but despite missing nearly a week of training, he was asked to play the following week against Luton – managing 45 minutes against the Hatters before being withdrawn again.
Shaw blames Man Utd's staff for injury problems
Shaw has not played since that trip to Kenilworth Road, missing the Red Devils' 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final, as well as England's two pre-tournament friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland.
While he takes responsibility for his role in aggravating his hamstring injury, he also places the blame on Man Utd's medical staff.
“I felt something against Aston Villa and came off at half-time. “I didn't practice for a week and when the scanner came back there was not much,” said Shaw (in the Mirror newspaper).
“Then I train the day before the game (at Luton) – and if the manager asks me to play, I will never say 'no.' But I shouldn't have played. It's everyone's fault. Partly my fault, partly the medical staff. I think everyone would agree with that.”
Shaw has been hit hard by allegations that he was not committed enough to Man Utd, especially after it became clear that he was a strong possibility of making the England squad for the Euros.
“I've had a few people come up to me, saying 'how can you be fit for United but fit for England?' No one knew the situation. In fact, I was very close to returning to training the team,” said Shaw.
“I was pushing to try and get back to the games and the finals – and I think I pushed hard. I came back quickly and ended up with a hamstring injury. It was three weeks before the final and they (doctors) said it was a six-week injury.
“It disappointed me, but I want to do everything I can, first of all, for United. I've always said that the United team comes before everything else for me – and that will never change. “
